š§µGridiron Glory: A Quilt Fit for Lambeauš

Letās talk sibling rivalry, spreadsheets, and a whole lotta green and gold.
So hereās the deal: my very first quilt was a glorious Hodge Podge masterpiece for my niece. She loved it. I loved it. It was a win all around. But then came the inevitable: my nephew saw it and immediately declared, āI need a Green Bay Packers quilt.ā And honestly? I respect the hustle. As long as itās not the Cowboys (sorry Dad), Iām game.
Now, I didnāt want to go full cheesehead with this one. I mean, I love a theme, but I also love subtlety. Lucky for me, his high school colors were also green and gold (shoutout to the AC Reynolds Class of 2005)! That gave me the perfect excuse to lean into the palette without turning the whole thing into a walking end zone.
š© The Pattern Play
I knew I wanted something classic but bold, and the double Irish chain practically tackled me with inspiration. Itās got structure, itās got symmetry, and itās basically a playground for practicing points. Sold.

š Spreadsheet MVP
Yes, I know there are fancy quilt design apps out there. But me? I live in spreadsheets. Google Sheets is my happy place. I sketched out the layout, played with color combos, and finally landed on a design that felt just right. You can peep the final layout in the picsātrust me, itās a touchdown.
š Size Matters
I mapped out the quilt dimensions in the spreadsheet (because of course I did), settled on 3" finished squares (cut to 3.5"), and gave the center green block a solid 9" finished size. That block is the quarterback of this quilt everything else runs around it (see what I did there?).

š§µ Fabric Math Is Hard
Letās be real: figuring out fabric requirements is still a bit of a mystery to me. Iām getting better, but itās like trying to read a defensive playbook in Latin. I might do a separate blog post on how I muddle through it, let me know in the comments if youād be into that!
š² Block Party
I debated going row-by-row vs. block-by-block and ultimately chose blocks. Two variations, 15 of each. Once those were done, I stitched them together row by row. And yāall.... those points? Chefās kiss. I may or may not have done a little victory dance.

š Quilting with a Theme
Quilting this beast was the next challenge. I wanted something footbally but not tacky. Etsy came through with a helmet-themed design that was just the right amount of sporty. There was a bit of double stitching (not ideal), but my nephew is helmet-obsessed, so it was a win.
š The Big Reveal
Binding done, quilt complete, time for delivery. My dad tried to prank my nephew by saying it was a Cowboys quilt. The poor kid was trying to be polite but looked genuinely panicked. When he saw the real deal, his face lit up like Lambeau Field under Friday night lights.

š¬ Final Whistle
This quilt was a labor of love, a lesson in precision, and a celebration of team spirit (even if itās not my team). If youāre looking to bring joy to someone special, or just want to turn your fandom into fabric, Iād love to help. Longarming services are open, and Iām ready to huddle up.
